Dear Industry Patrons,

Small & Medium Enterprises have been accepted as the engine of economic growth and development in India and worldwide. The country is witnessing an unprecedented, robust growth path and SMEs are looking beyond the nation’s borders for expansion. Opportunities abound for Indian SMEs to enter into the global marketplace through partnerships, opportune acquisitions, investments, mergers or trade.

I am very happy to present the Doing Business Internationally - A Practical Primer 2010, an assimilation of pertinent information needed by companies looking forward to expanding their business globally. I hope it serves as a useful platform to equip the Small and Medium Enterprises with knowledge relevant on the investment climate in various countries and provide guidance to organisations planning to expand their footprints globally.

ICICI Bank believes in going beyond the boundaries of banking and financing, to create a sustainable, long term business impact on existing and emerging SMEs in India. Given the wide spectrum of SMEs who bank with us, ICICI Bank adopts a cluster banking approach to ensure that our core banking and beyond banking programs are customised to cater to the specific needs of SMEs. Some of our initiatives include creation of SME Centric Knowledge Series and Workshops, White Books, Online business tools and a SME Awards platform. These initiatives, including Doing Business Internationally- A Practical Primer, are our efforts to provide a unique platform to disseminate knowledge, industry best practices and voice cluster specific issues, all of which helps in creating a supportive SME eco-system in the country.

I would like to thank all our partners and our SME fraternity for their support in our continued efforts in creating a supportive SME eco-system in the country.

Warm Regards,

Sanjeev Mantri
